The Rust & Gold
Huntington, NY
Met a couple of friends for a fried cheese snack tonight.
The Rust & Gold presents these bad boys as "Crispy Mozz Triangles", fresh breaded mozzarella w/ marinara sauce. They come as 5 golden triangular shapes with a darker marinara sauce delivered in a cardboard plate on top of a real plate. Coated with a sprinkle of parmigiana cheese and $8 a dish, these hush puppies are hard to share.
These definitely look like fresh mozzarella is used and prepared way before hitting the frying bath. The cheesiness is not too loose and has a consistency of a part skim mixture. A elasticity test was not conducted because hungriness was at bay for too long today.
The breading was a fine coarse bread with a herb mixture and the cheese to bread ratio was on point. Complimented with a marinara sauce that was heavy on the garlic side, this fried cheese dish was constructed with care.
Fried Cheeze Score: Solid 4 out of 5 Cheeze Sticks
Pros: This cheesiness, breading and ratio is perfect
Cons: Wish there could have been 6 triangles instead of 5
If you ever find yourself in the Village of Huntington and looking for a late night fried cheese snack, make your way over to The Rust & Gold on 70 Gerard St, Huntington NY open until 2 AM every day for one of the best fried cheese dishes in the area.
